Metroid Fusion Open Randomizer Tournament: Spoiler Edition 2022: Samus is a Grill

Thank you all, for joining me in the interest of this amazing mod of this amazing game! I hope you enjoy celebrating it as much as I do. This tournament is designed for Players to compete on more diverse settings, in a much more open and less stressful ruleset. Here are the basics of the format.

Racing:

Each Player receives the patch file shortly before race time. At the start of the race, the Race Sheet is updated to include the spoiler log of the seed to guide them through. They may have someone external guiding them so they can focus on playing, if they like. Seeds are to be rolled on the version released most recently before the tournament, unless issues arise to opt for other versions.

Race Sheet:

For each race, a Google Sheet is made publicly available. On race start, the sheet should transition over to a visible spoiler log. This sheet is only editable by Admins, and in case of emergencies, they can try to get your attention by flashing colors.

Important dates:

Signups run from August 1st to the end of September 28th. September 16th-26th, seeding races are to be scheduled, to seed Players into a best of 3, double elimination format, and best of 5 finals. These races are not mandatory, but other means may be used to seed the rest at the bottom.

Availability concerns:

Time zones are a terrible thing and Earth should have never been curled up into a ball. Alas, they exist, making races very difficult to coordinate across. It is a personal slight against me. Due to this issue, if Players are unable to agree on a time, it may be considered to get an Admin to privately capture a Player's performance in advance, to be played back alongside their opponents run if restreamed, or merely recorded for comparison if not.

Seed Settings:

By default:

• Major/Minor split OFF
• Missile upgrades enable missiles ON
• PBs usable before Bombs ON
• Damage runs ON
• Split Security OFF
• Sector Shuffle ON
• Hidden item models OFF

Though seeds are rolled using Difficulty 4, most seeds do not require any tricks. If they do, Players may opt out of seeds containing certain logic demands, such as but not limited to:

• Damage runs, mild or strict (minimum e-tank requirements)
• Difficult shinesparks, such as Speed starts or sparking Sector 1 first stabilizer
• Varialess ice X hoards
• Beatable, but logically bugged seeds requiring difficult tricks, such as mid-air bombjumps or clips

Rules:

1. No cheating. Any Player caught cheating shall be reprimanded to varying degrees, dependent mostly on severity, at the discretion of the Tourney Admin team.
2. No game modification aside from the randomizer patch, unless condoned by Tourney Admins.
   
3. Though any emulator is technically okay, any one other than Bizhawk using the mGBA core, or standalone mGBA, shall have a 2% time adjustment, until further testing is done and sanctioned by Tourney Ruler JaggerG (hey, that’s me! ^_^).
   
4. Players must have the spoiler sheet open and visible to them, in case Admins need to sound the alarm and get attention. Ideally, technical difficulties should not come up at all, but practically, they do, and Admins shall use their discretion to alert Players. Failure to respond may result in rematching the game in a backup seed.
5. Races must be completed by the per-round deadlines, unless pardoned by Tourney King JaggerG (hey, that’s me! ^_^).
6. Do try to be civil. Respect Admins and their decisions. Prolonged poor behavior shall be discussed privately by the Admin team behind your backs, and final decision on possible reprimands enforced by Tourney Dictator JaggerG (hey that’s me! ^_^).
7. You are a beautiful person and deserve to be loved as needed. This is not negotiable. If you are concerned you may be unable to obey this rule during the tournament, you may DM Tourney Fool JaggerG (hey, that’s me! ^_^) and are urged to seek a professional therapist. It is your personal business and shall be respected.
